Denpasar, Bali – 3 March 2026 – The Australian Consulate-General in Bali welcomed Ibu Putri Suastini Koster for a discussion focused on arts, culture, environmental preservation, and women’s empowerment in Bali.
Australia’s Consul-General in Bali, Jo Stevens, hosted Ibu Putri Suastini Koster, Chair of the Bali Provincial Family Welfare Team (TP-PKK), during a morning tea at the Consulate-General’s office in Denpasar. The meeting underscored the shared commitment of Australia and Bali to advancing gender equality and supporting women-led economic initiatives.

Both leaders highlighted the importance of strengthening industries driven by women, including Bali’s traditional endek weaving sector. Ibu Putri Suastini Koster noted that the Bali Regional Crafts Council has developed a digital platform to support local weavers in marketing their products more effectively. In response, Stevens emphasized Australia’s support through the Australia-Indonesia Institute, which is funding a collaboration between Griffith University and Bali Tourism Polytechnic. The program aims to provide digital literacy training to 100 women weavers in Gianyar and Klungkung regencies.
Stevens reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to gender equality, referencing the country’s International Gender Equality Strategy, which prioritizes ending gender-based violence and promoting women’s economic equality and inclusive trade.
The discussion also touched on broader cooperation between the two countries, including the INKLUSI program, a partnership between the Australian and Indonesian governments to promote gender equality, social inclusion, and the rights of people with disabilities across Indonesia. In Bali, the Consulate-General administers a direct aid program that supports small-scale initiatives in health, education, and environmental preservation.
Ibu Putri Suastini Koster expressed appreciation for Australia’s ongoing engagement in Bali and Indonesia, and voiced hope for expanded collaboration in empowering women and preserving Balinese arts and culture.

The visit concluded with a tour of the Consulate-General’s building and gardens, which blend Balinese and Australian architectural elements. Ibu Putri Suastini Koster was accompanied by officials from the Bali TP-PKK during the visit.
