GIANYAR – Risiko gigitan hewan dan persoalan limbah organik menjadi tantangan serius di kawasan wisata berbasis konservasi satwa. Menjawab persoalan tersebut, tim akademisi Universitas Warmadewa menggelar Program Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) berupa pelatihan penanganan awal gigitan binatang dan pengelolaan limbah kebun binatang di Bali Zoo, Gianyar.

Kegiatan ini menghadirkan dr. A.A. Ngurah Rai Kusuma Putra, Sp.B, dr. I Putu Arya Giri Prebawa, SpPD, serta Prof. Dr. Ir. Luh Suriati, MSi sebagai narasumber utama. Ketiganya menekankan pentingnya peningkatan kapasitas petugas kebun binatang dalam menghadapi risiko kerja, mencegah penularan penyakit zoonosis, serta menjaga sanitasi lingkungan.
Sebanyak 45 pegawai Bali Zoo dari berbagai divisi operasional, mulai dari perawat satwa, petugas keamanan, hingga petugas kebersihan, mengikuti pelatihan yang digelar pada Sabtu, 2 Oktober 2025. Aktivitas kebun binatang yang menerima ribuan pengunjung pada hari tertentu dinilai meningkatkan potensi interaksi berisiko antara manusia dan satwa.
“Gigitan dan cakaran hewan merupakan kecelakaan kerja yang tidak bisa dianggap sepele. Penanganan awal yang tidak tepat dapat berujung pada infeksi serius,” ujar dr. A.A. Ngurah Rai Kusuma Putra, Sp.B saat memberikan materi pertolongan pertama dan perawatan luka akibat gigitan hewan.
Sementara itu, dr. I Putu Arya Giri Prebawa, SpPD menyoroti ancaman penyakit zoonosis yang dapat menular dari hewan ke manusia. Menurutnya, edukasi keselamatan kerja dan pemahaman medis menjadi kunci utama untuk melindungi petugas sekaligus pengunjung kebun binatang.
Tak hanya aspek medis, pengelolaan lingkungan juga menjadi perhatian. Prof. Dr. Ir. Luh Suriati, MSi menegaskan bahwa limbah kebun binatang, khususnya kotoran satwa dan sisa pakan, harus dikelola secara tepat agar tidak mencemari lingkungan dan menimbulkan risiko kesehatan. “Pengelolaan limbah yang baik adalah bagian dari upaya pencegahan penyakit dan perlindungan ekosistem,” jelasnya.
Rangkaian kegiatan diawali dengan pre-test untuk mengukur pengetahuan awal peserta, dilanjutkan dengan penyuluhan, demonstrasi penanganan luka, edukasi keselamatan kerja, serta pelatihan pengolahan limbah ramah lingkungan. Kegiatan ditutup dengan post-test dan penyerahan peralatan P3K serta perlengkapan emergensi.
Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan peserta sebesar 27 persen, yang menandakan efektivitas pelatihan dalam meningkatkan kesiapsiagaan petugas Bali Zoo. Peralatan yang diberikan juga langsung dimanfaatkan sebagai standar awal penanganan insiden di lapangan.
Melalui program ini, tim pengabdian berharap praktik keselamatan kerja dan pengelolaan lingkungan di kebun binatang dapat semakin diperkuat. Ke depan, pelatihan serupa direkomendasikan untuk dilakukan secara berkala dan diperluas ke lebih banyak mitra, guna memastikan kawasan wisata satwa tetap aman, sehat, dan berkelanjutan.
